Christina Hooded as DPT
January 12, 2007
Dr, Christina Ann Trahanas
Other than the day Christina was born, this day was the happiest day of my life because I witnessed her being hooded for her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. What an accomplishment!
Christina made the decision to become a physical therapist after she had completed her Bachelor's degree in Social Work. In truth though, Christina originally wanted physical therapy but had to find her way back to it. Once she decided though, she found the schools that offered the best programs. From there she took the needed prerequisites, applied to Midwestern University, interviewed there, and was accepted as the university was impressed with her intelligence and her social work background. She did it all on her own--her own decisions and her own drive to be what she wanted to be.
Once accepted, the very hard work began. On day one her group skinned a cadaver and her schooling began. It's difficult for people not involved to understand how hard the DPT program is --I know I would have never believed it. The young adults in this program went to school eight hours a day, only to be followed by many hours of reading, papers, projects, lab work, and continuous studying not to mention the minimum grades to be maintained, work study to help pay bills, and the stress of success or failure looming overhead at all times. During Christina's time in this program I witnessed tremendous maturity, increasing confidence, and such determination. All bringing us to this joyous day.
John, Aunt Kathy, Uncle Frank, Nikki, Barb, and Holly all attended the graduation ceremony. (Some of us also attend the pre-graduation brunch where we viewed the wonderful slide show that Christina put together for her cohort PT class. ) Anyway, the ceremony was lovely--and I think both John and I cried--we were so proud. He turned to ma and thanked me for all I had done to raise Christina, I told him he was a major part of this as well. Most of all, I loved the smile Christina had on her face all day. She was and should be very proud of herself. (She even let me take a million pictures of her friends and family with her.)
After the ceremony we all went to dinner with some of her friends' families. Christina and I toasted with Appletinis!
Words can not really express what a special day this was, and all I can do is thank God for making it all possible.
Two days later, we were experiencing the graduation party. It was held at Christina's and Nikki's new townhouse--their first showing of their new home to family and friends. Over seventy people attended the party.
Then before we knew it, Christina had job offers, She chose Athletico with a great first salary, a sign on bonus, and great insurance and benefits.
Three months later, Christina received official word that she had passed her licensure test. Now she truly was Dr. Christina Ann Trahanas. How cool that is! She wanted it. She went for it, and now she has it!
