The Joy of My Visiting Goldfinches
Monday, August 10, 2016
As mentioned in a previous post, the flowers on my balcony have been attracting the goldfinches. These little creatures have brought me so much joy this summer. There is a couple who share nicely on the thistle feeder sock. Then we have the males who bully each other. One will feed and the other will impatiently wait on the railing and eventually chase the other away. Sometimes there will be as many as 4 on the balcony at one time. It is fun to watch them carefully pick the thistles, look around, listen carefully, then continue to eat. I always know when they are coming because they twitter and warble quite loudly, and they have such a unique wavy flying pattern that their approach is easily noticed. I have to say that winter will be quite boring without these little finches entertaining me, but then spring will arrive and that glorious yellow will decorate my balcony once again.

Maybe if you feed them all winter they will stay. ?? They would look pretty awesome in the snow.
