Childhood Memory

That song just triggered a memory about a young boy
who often climbed the tree outside our apartment
and with that toothy smile would ask my mom if I could play.
And off we'd go making adventures -- imagined and real
Sometimes learning new things as serious scientists.
Then came the painful summer when he told me
His mom was taking him to Greece for the whole break.
We sat on our back porch stairs, not knowing how to say goodbye.
We wrote as much as we could with the then snail mail
His letters to me were so descriptive about a place I thought I'd never visit.
We couldn't wait to see each other when he returned
And our imaginations ran wild about the future
because we didn't like being apart
But life marched on
Bringing separate paths, building separate lives
But the childhood memories live on without regrets.

  1. What a great memory. I'm surprised you haven't kept up with him. What was the song that triggered this memory?
