Inauguration Day 2017 Poem
January 20, 2017
Where or how do I begin?
Eight years ago the excitement was contagious
First African American President of the United States
Intelligent, Ethical, Peace Maker
Not perfect, but always willing to admit mistakes,
learn from them, even apologize
Suddenly, as though in a nightmare -
like a plague descending upon our country
A reckless, arrogant, immoral, belligerent man
Is leading our country
Arousing my fears, anger-- all my worst traits
So I call to my word for 2017-Balance
Knowing I can't hide my head in sand and
that I must take a stand
But also knowing I must play music, do art, write
To survive.
