Art Journaling 101

Art Journaling

So I have taken on a new hobby as mentioned in the TreeSpiritedWoman entry, and it is turning out to be a challenge but a very fulfilling one at times. Being new to it, I am still getting the hang of how to prepare my spreads for what comes after.  You are not necessarily supposed to know where or how  the spread is going to end up which is difficult for me.  I like to know where I am going to end and then meander through the process. For example, I created this background spread. I never really felt connected to it, but I wanted to follow the process. So to rescue it, I am going with butterflies and flowers. It's still looking FLAT to me, so I am going to have to do something to  make it pop--maybe some orange tints somehow??? Maybe putting gesso (white) on the entire border  and then adding the oranges. It is just too dark or dull looking to me. So I am also going to work with Words in other colors and see how that goes. I am going to focus on the symbols that the butterfly holds in different cultures. In particular, and because Easter is my favorite holiday and spring my favorite time of year, the focus words will be soul, resurrection, endurance, change, hope, joy, color, and life. I will have to find a way to make the words float like the butterflies.  Well, if nothing else art journaling is creating new synapses for the brain!

One last thought, I see this art journaling as a way for me to combine my scrapbooking interest of old, my photography, and art interests.

So after experimenting I have added some changes to my spread, although I was not successful at making the words float or look like they are flying like butterflies, but at least I did succeed at making the colors pop a bit. .

Now this week I have been working on a more powerful spread, I think, called Find Inner Fire. See what you think. Oh, you may ask why the Find Inner Fire is upside down--yes, well, that would be call an oops! However, I think it still works. The one thing I would change is the quote which is very small print. Note to self on that one.
Well, more to follow in the future.
